My First Time

Max Prospect is a picky, snarky, slightly hysterical romance book reviewer. And so much more! You can also find me scream-crying on Goodreads.

Hello and welcome to my blog. My reading tastes changed dramatically when that Big Thing that shall not be named happened, and the people in my life were in various states of *not good.* I found myself not able to finish a book, skim an article, or even synthesize a YouTube video on laundry hacks. I just could not. Now my family is wearing pink. It’s fine.

I wanted to lift out of my life, I wanted Calgon to take me away, I wanted to imagine myself running in this field in this dress like this woman, here!

Is there a porta-potty in those trees? ‘Cause, bad idea in that dress.

My life was lacking something fun and distracting, someone to cheer for besides Ted Lasso. I wanted to exist inside a world in which things generally worked the fuck out. So I turned to a friend. A romance reading friend. “I think I need those books you’ve been telling me about. Where do I start?” It was difficult choice-making, because she had many ideas for me, but ultimately I chose Amy Daws and there I began. Thank you, Ms. Daws and all her imaginary, hot men of sport ball!

I plowed through the books in her Harris Brothers delicious soccer/footballers series. After that, I was hooked on the whole romance genre. I had no idea I’d been missing out on so much delightful falling in love! People triumphing over their demons! Juicy fun sexy times! Drama! Giggles!

Below I’ve posted links to her whole series, and two of the connected stand-alones I quite enjoyed. After reading about all the brothers, you too may want to see the sister, Vi, get hers, too.

Daws’s books definitely contain some darker themes, so if you want a totally light-hearted, fun-loving skip down soccer pitch, these books will not be right for you. But if you want to have your heart strings tugged on and you’re good with heavier issues, I say, “GOOOOOOAAAAAL!” Do it. Read them all.

Interestingly, romance novels woke up my inner, then-slumbering sass-mouth (Well, maybe my husband will disagree.). I found I had something to say about these stories. Sometimes, a lot. I started posting on Goodreads and had some fun conversations with other readers. I decided to take it all a step further with this blog.

This website is way more fun than doing Goodreads book reviews à la hunt-and-peck on my phone in the dark next to my snoring spouse at two in the morning when I’ve just finished my latest romantic romp. (Romp with a book, that is.) So if my selections steer you toward stories you love, and away from ones I think are skip-worthy, then yay! Thanks for visiting!

Hey look! It’s me!* Exercising in my tube socks and swimsuit. Like I do.

*Okay, truth. That’s not me. But what’s not to love about this picture? It’s amaze.
